Vibrant Times.

We spoke and laughed on cellphones
until our voices echoed off
the same walls,

until our feet took us
to a familiar place to me
and new to you.

We occupied
each other’s second homes
and took the trip
to be together
at every opportunity.

I lay beneath you
and looked up at dark coils and a softness
that would soon become my universe
and we decided it was time
to bear all
to one another.

I held you close
and felt nothing but want
as we built something
deep inside of me
and afterwards
we glowed
as satisfied explorers do.

Now we face
an odd kind
of drift,

and the
only lips I’ve
ever craved
might have
to say goodbye,

But even
the blackest ache
cannot defeat
such vibrant times.

Waking up
to our warmth
under covers,

And sharing tea
at a little table,

And walking with
our fingers tangled,

And planting kisses
as you cooked
